Soundproofing & Acoustic Drywall in Thurston County & the South Sound
Solis Interiors provides soundproofing and acoustic drywall in Thurston County and the South Sound. True soundproofing requires an engineered assembly combining structural decoupling, dense mass, damping polymers, and airtight seals. Solis Interiors installs laboratory-tested acoustic drywall assemblies across Lacey, Olympia, and Tacoma for home theaters, ADUs, and private offices.

Build the drywall around the specified sound-control assembly
Sound can travel between rooms when the wall build-up does not match the project requirement. Board type alone does not describe the whole assembly; framing, adjacent spaces, and how the room is used also affect the drywall work.
Solis installs drywall as part of the specified wall build-up, with assembly details and room use guiding the work. Following the plans ties board installation to the design that calls for sound control and the surrounding wall construction.
- Drywall installed to the specified wall build-up.
- Assembly details carried through the board installation.
Here’s how we get it handled

A close-up, a wider view and your city give us a useful starting point. You can also call and talk through the work.
Agree the scope and schedule
We review the work with you, arrange a site visit where needed and put the agreed scope and finish in your estimate.
Get the space finished
Solis completes the agreed work and reviews the finish with you. Include interior painting in the scope for a complete drywall-and-paint handoff.

The documented noise exposure here is smaller than the base's reputation suggests
The 2015 Air Installation Compatible Use Zone study puts 579 off-base acres and roughly 2,367 people inside the 65 dB DNL contour around McChord Field, and the 75 dB contour covers 11 acres and no residents. Only Tacoma, Lakewood, and unincorporated Parkland, Midland and Spanaway fall inside the off-base 65 dB line; DuPont, Steilacoom, University Place and northeast Thurston County do not, because the noise zones south of the airfield stay on base. Where the exposure is real, it is usually a highway or a rail line rather than an aircraft, and that is the condition a wall assembly has to be built for.
Common questions
Where the state has built highway noise walls is a map of real exposure
Washington's built noise-abatement inventory records ten walls across 27,606 linear feet in Thurston County, all of them on Interstate 5 - seven in Tumwater, two in Lacey, one in Olympia - and thirteen across 19,808 feet in Pierce County on I-5, SR-16 and SR-704. Lewis County has none, and the layer carries no records at all for US-101, SR-512, SR-7 or SR-507, which means those corridors are undocumented rather than quiet. Walls were only built where measured exposure warranted them, so the inventory is a reasonable starting point for asking what a room actually sits next to.
How does structural decoupling with resilient channel stop noise?
Sound travels through wall studs as physical vibration. Solis Interiors breaks this direct path using resilient isolation channels (RC-1) or sound isolation clips, mechanically decoupling drywall panels from framing so sound vibrations dissipate within the cavity.
What makes constrained-layer acoustic drywall more effective?
We install high-density acoustic drywall (such as QuietRock) with internal viscoelastic polymer cores that convert sound energy into trace heat. Combined with mineral wool cavity insulation, these assemblies achieve STC ratings of 55+, blocking voices and television noise.
Why is perimeter acoustic sealing critical for sound isolation?
An acoustic wall fails if air gaps remain. We apply continuous non-hardening acoustic sealant along all baseplates, top tracks, and perimeter intersections, adding acoustic putty pads around electrical boxes to eliminate sound flanking paths.
