Level 4 drywall finish in Thurston County & the South Sound

We finish drywall to Level 4 in Thurston County and the South Sound, bedding tape at every joint and building coats over the joints, corners and screw heads until the board reads as one wall under flat paint. On a new room, an addition or a large repair, we plan the finish with the board and the paint.

Carry the specified Level 4 finish across the listed walls

Plans may name Level 4 without making it clear which rooms or surfaces receive that finish. Lighting direction and the final paint sheen also affect how the walls look once the coating is on.

Solis applies the specified Level 4 finish to the project areas, carrying the walls through the named finishing stage. Keeping coating notes and light conditions in view connects the drywall finish to the room's next paint step.

  • Level 4 finish applied to the listed surfaces.
  • Finishing carried into the room's paint preparation.

Here’s how we get it handled

  1. Text us photos or call

A close-up, a wider view and your city give us a useful starting point. You can also call and talk through the work.

  2. Agree the scope and schedule

We review the work with you, arrange a site visit where needed and put the agreed scope and finish in your estimate.

  3. Get the space finished

Solis completes the agreed work and reviews the finish with you. Include interior painting in the scope for a complete drywall-and-paint handoff.

What does a Level 4 drywall finish include?

GA-214, the Gypsum Association's guide to finish levels, defines Level 4 as tape embedded in joint compound at every joint and interior angle, two more coats over the flat joints, one over the interior angles and three over fastener heads and corner bead. The paper face between the joints gets no compound. GA-214 recommends Level 4 where the wall will get flat paint, a light texture or wallcovering. On a new room we set the level before the board goes up, so hanging, finishing and painting work to the same target, and we can quote the finishing alone or the whole sequence.

What changes between Level 4 and Level 5?

Level 5 adds a thin skim coat over the whole surface after the Level 4 work, so the paper and the compound take paint the same way. GA-214 recommends it for gloss, semi-gloss or enamel paint and where strong side light crosses the wall. That skim is extra labor on every square foot, which is why the plans or the finish schedule should say which level each room gets. When you're unsure, a sample area under the room's own light shows the difference before you commit.

Does existing drywall need the same preparation?

Usually more. New board starts clean, while an older painted or textured wall can carry old patches, loose paint or texture that has to be dealt with first. Level 4 describes how joints are finished, so repairing an old wall or taking it from textured to smooth is separate work with its own price. We look at the wall before quoting, so you know whether you're paying for joint finishing or a larger smoothing job.

From hung board to a painted room

On a new room, finishing starts once the board is hung and any required inspection has passed. Taping, coats and sanding lead into primer and paint. On a repair we also mark where the new finish meets the old wall. Text us the rough wall and ceiling dimensions and the paint you have in mind, and we'll quote the finishing and tell you which hanging, texture or painting stages belong with it.

Level 4 Drywall Finish questions

Does Level 4 include a skim coat over the entire wall?

No. A full skim is what makes a finish Level 5. A Level 4 price doesn't include it, so ask for Level 5 if that's the wall you want.

Is Level 4 automatically the right finish for my room?

For a room with flat or matte paint and ordinary light, it usually is. A long wall lit from the side by a window, or semi-gloss or dark paint, is where Level 4 joints can show, and Level 5 is worth pricing.
