Carry the specified Level 4 finish across the listed walls
Plans may name Level 4 without making it clear which rooms or surfaces receive that finish. Lighting direction and the final paint sheen also affect how the walls look once the coating is on.
Solis applies the specified Level 4 finish to the project areas, carrying the walls through the named finishing stage. Keeping coating notes and light conditions in view connects the drywall finish to the room's next paint step.
- Level 4 finish applied to the listed surfaces.
- Finishing carried into the room's paint preparation.

Level 4 drywall finish in DuPont homes
When DuPont's homes were built shapes what is behind the wall and which rules apply to the work.
- 6% Before 1940
- under 1% 1940–1959
- 8% 1960–1979
- 24% 1980–1999
- 63% 2000 or later
- 2002Median year DuPont homes were built
Half of DuPont's homes were built before 2002 and half after. New walls in an existing home are finished to meet what is already there, so the home's age shapes the finish plan. U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020–2024, median year structure built
- 62.5%of DuPont homes were built in 2000 or later
Newer homes are almost all drywall over wood framing, which keeps new work and the existing walls consistent. U.S. Census Bureau, 2020–2024 ACS 5-year estimates
What the Level 4 finish describes
In GA-214, Level 4 covers joint, fastener and accessory treatment on gypsum panels before decoration. It's a shared term for the project, while the chosen paint or texture decides what follows. Send the wall and ceiling areas and the finish schedule so the work lines up with the coating.
Separate Level 4 from the extra Level 5 skim
Level 5 adds a skim coat over the whole panel face after the Level 4 work. That puts compound on much more surface and can change how the wall looks under side light. A smooth look alone doesn't fix the level, so we follow the specification and price a full skim only if you ask for it.
Match the finish to its light and decoration
Windows, fixtures and paint sheen change how a finished plane reads. GA-214 discusses jobsite mock-ups for checking appearance in real conditions, and if one area needs a closer look we name a sample location before the finish repeats. Texture conversion or broader repair stays on separate lines.
Estimating Level 4 work
Send the finish schedule, the board condition, wall and ceiling dimensions, the paint or texture, the light direction and any sample request, and tell us whether it's new installation or repair.
Level 4 Drywall Finish questions in DuPont
Does Level 4 include a skim across the full panel?
No. Level 4 treats the joints; the full-panel skim is Level 5.
Does Level 4 promise a flawless appearance in every light?
No finish level does. A sample in the room's real light shows you what to expect.
