Olympia walls taken from textured to smooth
We turn textured walls in Olympia into a smooth wall finish, keeping the board and skimming over what's there. New board and old texture need different prep, so we price them apart.

Bring textured walls through to a smooth finish
Existing texture, old repairs, and uneven areas can remain visible after a paint change. Treating one spot alone can leave a transition where the newly smoothed patch meets the surrounding wall.
Solis prepares and skims the selected wall area for a smooth finish, accounting for existing texture, lighting direction, and paint sheen. Working across the surface keeps the finishing area connected and gives the room a consistent ground for its next coat.
- A smooth finish carried across the selected wall area.
- Surface preparation connected to the next paint coat.

Smooth wall finish in Olympia homes
When Olympia's homes were built shapes what is behind the wall and which rules apply to the work.
- 12% Before 1940
- 13% 1940–1959
- 23% 1960–1979
- 28% 1980–1999
- 25% 2000 or later
- 1982Median year Olympia homes were built
Half of Olympia's homes were built before 1982 and half after. Send the year your home was built with your photos; it tells us what the walls and earlier patches are likely made of. U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020–2024, median year structure built
- 47.5%of Olympia homes were built before 1980
Asbestos was banned from wall patching compounds in 1977, so old patches and joint compound in these homes are tested before they are sanded. U.S. EPA, regulatory history of asbestos bans
- 1978Washington's lead-safe renovation cutoff
Washington's lead renovation rules cover housing built before 1978, and a firm must be certified to do paid renovation work under them. WAC 365-230-020 and 365-230-360
New board and existing texture need different prep
On new drywall, the work is joints, screws and corners brought to the finish level you chose. On an existing wall, we first take off loose texture and fix dents, then skim more of the surface, sometimes all of it, before it reads smooth. We quote the wall that's actually there.
Test before sanding in older Olympia homes
Nearly half of Olympia's homes were built before 1980. Asbestos wasn't banned from patching compounds until 1977, so in a house from that era the texture and joint compound are tested before anyone sands them.
Blend broad transitions before the final coat
Where the smooth wall meets a textured ceiling or the next room, we carry the skim to a corner or trim line so there's no raised edge. If the coating is an unknown, we do a test area first and you see how it behaves in your own light. Primer and paint are priced on their own, stopping at a corner or covering the whole room.
Send a close-up and the year built
Text a photo close to the texture, one of the whole wall, and the year the house was built. We'll tell you whether testing comes first and what the skim will cost.
Smooth Wall Finish questions in Olympia
Can a textured wall be made smooth?
Yes, in most cases. Heavy or loose texture takes more passes, and texture in an older home is tested before it's sanded.
Will smooth-wall work include repainting the whole room?
Only if you ask for it. We price paint for the smoothed wall alone or for the full room.
