Replace flood-cut board and finish the long wall edge

A flood cut can leave a long strip of missing drywall across a wall or several rooms. The cut edge stays visible after removal, and replacement should wait until the moisture source and needed drying or mitigation are handled.

Once the responsible provider completes the moisture work, Solis replaces the flood-cut board and restores the requested texture or finish. Carrying the new board through its edge treatment helps the repaired section meet the existing wall across the cut line.

Lakewood lists insulation and sheetrock or wallboard installation among work that requires a building permit, and its repair exemption excludes cutting away any wall. City of Lakewood, handout B4

Restore the lower-wall opening after removal

A flood cut leaves a strip open along the bottom of the wall. We measure the actual opening and check its edges before planning the new board and the joint above it. Baseboard, casings, inside corners and the texture above all affect how the new strip meets the room, and damage beyond that strip gets assessed separately.

Wait for the restoration provider's handoff

The water source and drying come before we close a cavity. EPA's clean-water guidance notes swollen board or damaged seams may need removal and cavities are hard to dry, and it doesn't cover contaminated water or mold. We start when the restoration company's findings say the wall is ready.

Carry texture and paint across the repair boundary

New board along the bottom makes a long horizontal joint. The texture may need to carry through the lower strip, and paint can stop at the repair or go to the corners. The quote names each step, so put-back isn't mistaken for leak repair, drying or a full repaint.

Cutting away walls and Lakewood permits

Lakewood's permit handout says its exemption for ordinary repairs doesn't include cutting away any wall or partition, so a flood cut and its put-back may need a permit; your restoration company or the City can tell you. Send the restoration handoff and the finish you want.
