Install drywall with the finished room in mind

New and renovated rooms can have different board, backing, opening, and finish requirements. When installation ends at bare sheets, seams, texture, smooth finishing, and primer preparation may be left for a separate handoff.

Solis installs drywall from the drawings and wall conditions, then carries board through taping and the selected finish. Connecting installation with finishing leaves the walls ready for their next preparation and coating work.

  • Board installation follows drawings and wall conditions.
  • Taping and selected finish carried with the installation.

Half of Lacey's homes were built before 1996 and half after. New walls in an existing home are finished to meet what is already there, so the home's age shapes the finish plan. U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020–2024, median year structure built

ExemptPainting and finish work in Lacey

Lacey exempts painting, papering and similar finish work from building permits. Its permit page does not list drywall, so ask the city before adding or rebuilding walls. City of Lacey, construction permits

Lacey's newer housing

Census estimates put Lacey's median home at 1996, with close to half built in 2000 or later. New rooms in those homes are usually finished to match their existing drywall texture. U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimates, year structure built

Hang and finish board across walls and ceilings

We measure the framing, plan the joints, cut around doors and boxes, and fasten panels as the assembly requires. Tape and compound then bring the sheets into one flat surface for texture or paint. We do walls, ceilings or both, and leave access panels where the plan shows them.

Matching the house you already have

Close to half of Lacey's homes were built in 2000 or later, and the city's median home dates to 1996. When we add rooms to a house like that, the new walls are usually finished and textured to match the existing ones, so the addition doesn't look tacked on.

Follow the specified board assembly

Where a wall or ceiling has a fire or sound rating, we install the board type and layers in the approved assembly. Insulation, channel and penetrations are part of it. A garage wall shared with the house is a common example.

Decide what follows installation

Our quote separates hanging, finishing, texture, primer and paint. If your painter is taking over, we hand off at whatever stage you choose. Heavier texture can go over a lighter finish level, while flat paint with no texture needs at least Level 4. We'll say which your rooms need.

Lacey permits and ADUs

Lacey's permit page exempts painting and similar finish work but doesn't list drywall, so new walls are a question for the city. For an ADU, the City publishes its plan requirements, and we hang to the approved plan set.

Ready for board

Framing done, the building dried in, and electrical, plumbing and insulation inspected: that's when we can start. Text us the plans or room sizes and the date the framing will be ready. A rough date is fine; we'll firm it up as the framing finishes.

Drywall Installation questions in Lacey

Does drywall installation include finishing and paint?

It can. We price hanging, finishing, texture and paint as separate lines so you choose where we stop.

Can drywall be installed before other trades are done?

No. Rough-in work and inspections have to be done first, because once the board is up the walls are closed.
