Rebuilding water-damaged drywall in Tacoma
We start water-damage drywall repair in Tacoma once the leak is fixed and the wall cavity has been checked. Board that is still firm and flat can sometimes stay, while swollen, soft or split board comes out, and we rebuild and finish the wall to match the room.

Replace water-damaged drywall after the leak is handled
Water can damage board and finish after a leak or moisture event. Replacing the drywall before the source is resolved can put the repair ahead of the drying or mitigation work that the responsible provider needs to complete.
After the moisture source is addressed, Solis replaces damaged board and restores the requested texture or finish. Leak repair and mitigation stay with the responsible provider; the drywall work can then bring the affected wall back through board replacement and surface preparation.
- Damaged board replaced after moisture work is complete.
- Texture or finish restored with the repair.

Confirm what happened before closing the wall
We want to know the water source, which rooms it reached, where the board is stained or soft, and which sections are already open. We close walls only after the source is stopped and the cavity is dry. Sewage, flood water or visible mold needs a restoration or remediation company before we start.
Choose drying or removal from the actual condition
EPA's clean-water guidance says intact board with no swelling and sound seams can sometimes be dried in place, while swollen board or failed seams usually come out. The cavity dries slower than the face of the wall, so we wait for the drying team's readings before we decide.
Set the replacement and finish boundary
We cut back to dry, firm board, ideally at a stud so the new piece has something to land on, then hang, tape, texture and paint to the line you choose. For panels that got wet, we follow the board maker's handbook.
Old joint compound in Tacoma homes
Roughly two in three Tacoma homes were built before 1980, and joint compound from before 1977 could contain asbestos. Tearing out wet board disturbs it. In Pierce County a certified inspector surveys before renovation, except in a single-family house the owner lives in, where the owner may do it. Text us photos and tell us how far the drying company has got.

Water-Damage Drywall Repair questions in Tacoma
Is every water-stained drywall panel removed?
No. Under EPA's clean-water guidance, firm board without swelling and with sound seams can sometimes dry in place. Dirty water, swelling or failed seams mean it comes out.
Does drywall repair include water cleanup or mold remediation?
No. A restoration company handles extraction, drying and mold, and we rebuild once they've cleared the area.
