Plaster repair for DuPont's oldest houses

We take on plaster repair in DuPont's older houses, fixing cracked, chipped or loose walls and ceilings and finishing them into the surface around them. How far a repair reaches depends on how much plaster has let go, so we look at the edges before quoting.

Repair the plaster surface and its supporting layers

A crack or loose patch can extend past the visible face into the plaster layers beneath it. Filling only the mark can leave a weak edge and a noticeable transition where the repair meets the surrounding surface.

Solis repairs damaged plaster with its supporting layers and the surrounding finish in view. Carrying the edge repair into the nearby surface makes the transition part of the work, so the wall can move from damaged plaster back to a finished room.

  • Damaged plaster and its supporting layers repaired together.
  • The repair edge carried into the surrounding finish.

Where the sound plaster starts

A hairline crack in firmly attached plaster takes a small fix. A loose patch, a bulge or missing finish means the repair has to reach plaster that still holds. We note old patches nearby and where the damage meets a corner or trim, and size the repair from that.

Bring the repair back to the wall plane

The City of DuPont dates its Historic Village to 1906, when the DuPont Company built an explosives plant and housing for its workers, and about one DuPont home in twenty was built before 1940, when plaster was still the usual wall. In those houses we rebuild the damaged area flush, prepare the edge and carry the existing smooth or textured finish across it. Where plaster meets later drywall, we finish the two together, and a skim over a whole wall is a separate line.

Choose the final texture and paint

A new repair can differ from old plaster in profile and color even when it's flat. You choose whether we keep the surrounding texture, smooth a larger area or repaint to the corner. Primer, paint and any change of coating are written into the estimate.

Text a close photo and a wide one, the approximate size, whether any of it is loose and the finish you want afterward. Show the trim, corners or drywall next to it and tell us if you want a wider skim, primer or paint.

Plaster Repair questions in DuPont

Can plaster damage be repaired without resurfacing the full room?

Usually. Where the plaster around the damage still holds, we repair that area and blend it. A larger loose area means more work, and we'll say so after seeing it.

Can plaster repair include paint?

Yes. Tell us whether the paint stops at the patch, runs to a corner or covers the wall.
